NEWS YOU NEED TO KNOW

February is an exciting month at Lawson’s Finest Liquids. It’s the official release of our limited specialty brew, Fayston Maple Chocolate Tart Cherry Imperial Stout. Brewed with loads of dark malts and a hefty dose of maple syrup, then fermented with Montmorency tart cherry juice and cacao, this rich and decadent stout features notes of dark fruit and chocolate.

Our original four head HDP bottle filler was delivered from Warren to our Waitsfield brewery to bring these bottles to life! These bottles are a retail only special with draft available in the taproom. There will be a limit of one case per person. If you’re looking to get your hands on some, be sure to plan a trip to Waitsfield, VT soon!

The end of January we debuted our very first Lawson’s Finest Porter! The delicious Stony Hill Smoked Porter (5.4% abv) features a dry finish, subtle smokiness, and notes of chocolate and caramel. Carefully crafted by Sean and our team (kudos to Andrew for the recipe!) on the original 7bbl brewery at the Wizard’s Workshop in Warren, VT. This taproom only draft special is the first in our series of 2019 special releases from the Warren brewery!

We had a special guest appearance at the Warren brewery from Big Spruce Brewing of Nova Scotia. Lawson’s Finest Liquids and Big Spruce Brewing joined forces to create a special collaboration brew for the Vermont Brewers Festival in Killington on March 23rd. MC Amalgamation Brett IPA (7.4%) is brewed with a base of pale malt, wheat and oats and fermented with a special blend of brettanomyces wild yeast strains.

Grab tickets for the opportunity to taste our Vermont Brewers Festival exclusive collaboration beer!

We are honored to be named amongst the best 100 brewers in the world!

Be sure to check our online retail store or stop by if you’re in the area to check out the new Lawson’s Finest merchandise that has arrived! Back in stock are two of our most popular items, our Double Sunshine T-shirt and our Lawson’s Finest 5 Panel Hat. Grab them while supplies last!

Charitable Giving Program

Lawson’s Finest has chosen to pay our staff generous living wages and benefits. There is no tip obligation when guests come to the taproom. However, if guests choose to leave a gratuity, 100% will be donated to local charitable endeavors.

During the first half of February we will be donating to Hannah’s House in Waitsfield, VT. Donations to Hannah’s House help assure local access to mental health services, information and quality licensed psychotherapy regardless of one’s ability to pay. In its ninth year, this community supported, non-profit organization has helped to address the stigma and overcome the barriers that keep those underserved from receiving the therapy services they need. Hannah’s House is especially dedicated to providing services to children, youth and their families. Our donation will go towards financial assistance, prevention programming and education events, and easily accessible quality licensed therapy services both in the schools and the community.

The second half of the month we will be donating to Capstone Community Action whose mission is to provide comprehensive services to help people achieve economic well-being with dignity and develops partnerships to strengthen local communities. The donations will go towards their Fuel Your Neighbors campaign providing emergency food and heating assistance to central Vermonters in need this winter.

Maple Nipple History and Distribution!

Maple Nipple History and Distribution!

The Maple Nipple was born even before Lawson’s Finest Liquids – as a homebrew recipe! Sean Lawson and LFL Brand Ambassador Chuck Derrick frequently brewed together with other local homebrewers.

In the early 2000’s, during sugaring season, they sought to make a beer with maple syrup. Browsing the recipes in a book at the Vermont Homebrew Supply in Winooski, VT, Sean and Chuck encountered a brew called the “Bishop’s Tipple” – an English amber ale made with brown sugar and molasses.

They decided to replace the sugar and molasses with maple syrup and brewed the first iteration of this beer at Chuck’s sugarhouse in Fayston, VT, while the sap was boiled into maple syrup in the early spring! The beer is named for Vermont’s state tree and the sweet nectar that it provides.

Each summer for nearly 20 years, Chuck hosted a well-attended annual homebrew party each summer with live music, camping and a variety of homebrewed beers and handmade posters to accompany each. Our Maple Nipple label draws inspiration from the both the recipe and the original poster featuring the name of this beer.

For the past 8 years Lawson’s Finest Liquids has relied on Purinton Maple and Tree Farms in Huntington, Vermont to provide the maple syrup for this delicious Amber Ale and other maple brews.

This business has been family run for 41 years and their techniques reflect the old fashioned ways of producing maple syrup. Peter Purinton has been producing maple syrup for over 50 years and finds that his wood-fired process gives his syrup a richer flavor. The Purinton’s are so passionate about their maple syrup and it shows in their product!

Purinton Maple and Tree Farms is nestled in between the picturesque mountains and it won’t take long for their adorable pups to come say hi! They love to create products with their syrup such as candy, lollipops, cotton candy and much more, so be sure to check out their shop.

A visit to their farm is sure to bring a smile to your face!

We are so excited to offer the ultimate Lawson’s Finest experience and finally have a destination to visit. We look forward to seeing both new and old faces enjoying our brewery, taproom and retail store throughout 2019!

December was a great month for beer! We officially released our new brew, Scrag Mountain Pils which was inspired by the traditional Czech Pilsner style and has been a major hit! Our house lager is a tribute to the source of Waitsfield’s town water and the aquifer deep beneath Scrag Mountain.

In addition, our Belgian style ale, App Gap Saison made its debut in cans! This ale was introduced on the draft list in our taproom shortly after we opened and now you’re able to bring some home from our retail store!

Charitable Giving Program

For the first half of December, our charitable giving program donated to the Mad River Valley Ambulance and due to our guests generosity they were able to use the funds for their new rig! Mad River Ambulance has operated solely on community donations and their equipment and operational costs run high.

During the second half of December, donations were awarded to the Green Mountain Club in loving memory of our employee Andrew Black.

Thank you from all of us at Lawson’s Finest Liquids for visiting our brewery, taproom and retail store the month of December and contributing to our charitable giving program!

During the month of January we will be donating to Washington County Mental Health Services and Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports. We have chosen the Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports for the second half of January to help raise money for their new facility they will be building in the Spring of 2019 at Sugarbush! Their 4th Annual Snow Ball which will be held on February 7th is another way for the community to contribute to their new facility.

We are so honored to announce that we are a recipient of the Brewbound Rising Star Award! Sean Lawson traveled to sunny Santa Monica, CA for the Brewbound LIVE conference to accept the award.

The Brewbound Awards acknowledge breweries for their execution of various business and philanthropic initiatives. As the craft beer world grows more competitive, and as more breweries open their doors, Brewbound has selected five rising stars from around the country who demonstrated a unique ability to thrive in a challenging climate and emerged as players to watch in the coming years. We are so thankful to be recognized alongside such a great group of breweries.

Congratulations to our fellow rising stars – Tree House Brewing, New Realm Brewing, Braxton Brewing Company and Fort Point Beer Company!

At our taproom we employ a “no tip” model as we have chosen to pay our staff generous living wages and benefits. There is no tip obligation when guests come to the taproom. However, if guests choose to leave a gratuity, 100% will be donated to local charitable endeavors. We are so proud to have been able to donate to the Mad River Valley Food Shelf as our first recipient!

During the month of November our charitable donations have been given to the Mad River Valley Community Fund, which assists local families with housing, heat, transportation and other critical needs that may not be provided through various social service organizations; and also the Mad River Valley Senior Center, which provides activities and quality food for seniors including the Meals on Wheels program. Thank you to all of our guests who have contributed to our charitable giving program. Your kindness and contributions will go far!

We’d like to introduce you to Sugarhouse IPA! This is a special brew as it was inspired by the first recipe crafted in 2008 at our home-based nanobrewery in Warren, VT. This hop-forward American IPA celebrates the “Sugarhouse Brewery” that is now our wizard’s workshop for experiments and taproom-only specials. Since the opening of our new Waitsfield taproom and retail store this IPA has been a hit!

Our first original recipe to come out of our Waitsfield, VT brewery is officially released! Our golden ale, Above the Clouds is crisp, clear and an approachable light bodied brew. It features notes of straw and fresh grain along with a subtle citrusy hop aroma. You can find it on draft in our taproom and freshly packaged in our retail store.
